Intimate San Diego Backyard Wedding│Katie + Mike

When this beautiful mama/bride initially reached out to me, she emphasized that she and her husband-to-be are pretty laid-back people. Katie and Mike were looking forward to having a mellow and intimate backyard wedding at their home in San Diego. Intimate weddings and backyard weddings are actually among my favorites to shoot because of how personal and special they are, so I was excited from the start for this day to come.

Their wedding day turned out absolutely perfect. First off, Katie and Mike are just the sweetest pair ever, and their dog Duke was hands down the most amazing ring bearer ever. The couple’s family and friends were all incredible humans… it was just a day filled with laughter, love, and pure joy.

Katie looked so beautiful in a simple a-line wedding dress. She showed off her cute little baby bump (her and Mike’s first!) and even changed into a different dress to be a bit comfier for the intimate dinner reception. Mike looked wonderful in a classic black groom suit. The pair not only looked good, but they felt it too. And that really shines through the photos.

One of my favorite things is that there were so many sweet intimate touches for their wedding day. For the reception dinner, they had Dang Brother Pizza cater out brick oven pizza out of the back of an old firetruck. This was super fitting since Mike is actually a firefighter! Katie’s favorite flower is a sunflower, so sunflowers made multiple appearances for their wedding. The couple made this day entirely theirs, and that’s what a wedding day should be.

This was such an incredibly special day. A beautiful intimate backyard wedding, where the couple could be surrounded by all of their favorite things, and all of their favorite people. And I am so honored to have been able to witness and capture it all.
