Modern Rooftop Wedding with a Splash || M + J Married at Kimpton Palomar Hotel

November 07, 2018 by Christine Tustin in 2018 Weddings, California, Fall Wedding, Photography, San Diego, wedding

We live in a pretty cool time. With technology at our fingertips we can stay connected with loved ones, meet someone new (perhaps the love of your life), find recipes, even control your tv from your phone. Technology has nothing to do with how these two met, which is probably why their story is so endearing to me. In a time where most people meet online, these two met at a bar. Yep, the old-fashioned, tried and true method of meeting someone. I love how perfect that is. Not to mention, they met at one of my favorite places to grab a drink in San Diego: Modern Times Brewery.

Fast forward to these two getting married. I knew from the day that I met Michael and Jennifer that this was going to be one of my favorite weddings to shoot. I loved how they envisioned their wedding from the start. Modern and minimalistic details. Using all greenery + plants instead of flowers. A gorgeous hotel with a unique detail of doing a ceremony around a pool. (The pool which later became the second dance floor.) A special duo mother-son and father-daughter dance and instead of a cake cutting they opted for a donut feeding and a special toast with a beer they brought back with them from their travels. The day felt SO effortless and everything came together so perfectly. Michael and Jennifer were so calm and collected all day and when it was finally time to party, they sure as heck had a great time.

Remember when I said the pool became it’s own dance floor? Nothing was stopping Michael and Jennifer from having a good time and being themselves on their wedding day. They knew from the moment they started planning their wedding at Hotel Palomar that they would end the night with an epic pool jump. We had talked about it for months + I was so excited to see this happen. It certainly did not disappoint. Friends and family were jumping in fully dressed in wedding attire. Parents, uncles, cousins, wedding party…everyone piled in on that rooftop pool.
